Eric Whitacre talks about his creative process
Composer Eric Whitacre always been a huge inspiration for me. The way he approaches choir music is insightful and very inspiring. I have experience in writing for instruments, but the human voice is something else. I am looking forward to work with choir conductors and experienced composers to enlighten me in the subtleties and uniqueness of composing for choir. Nevertheless, I always start my creative process with the sounds themselves. I would write for string quartet and have a string ensemble patch to my MIDI keyboard, so I could focus on how it will sounds. It was therefore important to look for an inspiring choir library. Spitfire audio are a world-class company that makes beautiful and inspiring virtual instruments librairies. They have teamed up with Whitacre to sample his choir and create a huge “encyclopaedia of the voice”. In this video, the composer share his creative approach to composition - and it truly resonates to how I engage with my creative process. Very inspiring.
